Oh, I've been meaning to ask you...

my little Squid really wants to knit. But she's three. She rifles through my yarn a lot and when I suggest that manhandling the alpaca isn't really a suitable activity she wails "but i just love yarn!"

So i'd love to find some yarny activity. ideas?

Maybe a spool knitter with some suitable yarn for such a task? She can make some cute things out of the cord it makes. .... or just play with it as is.

Finger knitting! That's what I've tried to teach my 4 & 1/2 yr old - and she claims to LOVE knitting (I let her play with some of my big 17's and some scrap yarn, and her "knitting" looks like someone tossing a salad - but FUN to watch!) so I teach her to Finger-knit every now and again, and I figure when she really has the attention for it, it'll Click, and then we can go on to needles her size. :-)

i just give my daughter yarn scraps to play with and pretend to roll into balls (she's two)...also glueing to make yarn collages can be fun.
you have a lovely site and great patterns!

i was going to suggest finger knitting as well. or maybe you could get her a kid-safe loom-ette and have her try her hand at weaving (probably still too young for that though) with your scraps?

she's a smart kid to appreciate it at such an early age! ;)

How sweet. I don't have an idea, but my 15 month old has recently taken to finding little "odds and ends" balls of yarn and crawling off with them. When he's sufficiently hidden from view, he unwinds them at light speed. Too cute, these little ones we have!
